Mrs. Helen Elizabeth Westerman, known to many of her friends here as "Ma" Westerman, died at the Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital last Thursday, April 10, several days after having suffered a fractured hip in a fall at her home.
Mrs. Westerman was born March 31, 1870, in Wayne county, Tennessee, the daughter of Aaron and Mary Melton and was aged 82 years, 9 days. In 1886, in Stewart county, Tennessee, she was married to Wiley F. Westerman, who died in this city on February 23, 1942. She had lived in Caruthersville for the past 43 years and had long been a member of the Christian church here.
She is survived by two sons, Walter Westerman of Detroit, Mich. and Harry Westerman of Pasadena, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Effie Murphy of St. Louis and Mrs. Annis Williams of Detroit; two brothers, Robert Melton of Redondo Beach, Calif.; and Crockett Melton of San Antonio, Texas; eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at the Christian church Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, the Rev. John L. Sennett conducting the service. Burial was in Maple Cemetery with H.S. Smith Funeral Home service.
