Born Eliza Jane Daugherty, in DeMossville, Pendleton, Kentucky on 20 Oct 1848 to Joseph Harrison Daugherty and Elizabeth Ashcraft, she is the 7th known child and 5th daughter in a family of 14 children.
She married John Hezekiah Ambler, son of Alexander Ambler and Elizabeth Jerman, on 23 Dec 1869 in Pendleton County, Kentucky. His family had moved to the area from Hampshire County, Virginia.
They became the parents of 5 children: James William (known as Billy), Loren Albert,(he died at less than a month old), Elmer Lee, Viola May (md Cecil B. Hamilton), and Harry Alexander Ambler.
The family move to McPherson, Kansas in 1890 and on to Hutchinson, Kansas in 1901.
Eliza and John H. Ambler, owned and operated a grocery store, until he died in 1925. Eliza lived for another 6 years before her death, 7 Dec 1931 in Hutchinson, Kansas of stomach cancer.
They have an Ambler Family marker in the cemetery and next to that is Eliza, John, Billy and Elmer on either side of it. PKN

Mrs. Eliza Jane Ambler
Mrs. Eliza Jane Ambler, widow of John Ambler, one-time prominent Hutchinson groceryman, died last night at her home, 119 Ninth Avenue West. She was 83 years old. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Viola Hamilton of Wichita; two sons, Elmer Ambler of Hutchinson, and Harry Ambler of San Diego, Calif. and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o' clock tommorrow afternoon at the Frisen parlors. Rev. Claude Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery. Mrs. Ambler had been a resident of Hutchinson since 1901 when she came here with her husband, who was active as a grocer until shortly before his death seven years ago. Mrs. Ambler was a member of the First Christian Church.
