From Hampshire Gazette & Northampton Courier Tues 1 Jun 1875 p2:
Three young men, Robert G Houston, David K Millard and Linus A Chase, all of this town [Northampton], while rowing up the Connecticut River in a tin boat, last Sunday forenoon, were upset when in the middle of the river, and Chase and Millard were drowned. Houston succeeded in reaching the shore in an exhausted and fainting condition. The accident occurred near the steamboat landing above Hockanum Ferry.
The article continues with a very descriptive account of the accident.
Near the end: Mr Millard was a son of the late C.E. Millard of this town, and was employed by E.C. Davis, having studied civil engineering in the Mass. Agricultural College. He was also member of the Una base ball club, holding the position of pitcher, in which capacity he was excelled by few...His body was found Monday forenoon a short distance from the scene of the accident. Funeral services were held at six o'clock, last evening. The remains were taken to Florence for internment.

Notes: Mr Chase was found on June 5. Mr Chase made the boat entirely of tin with an air chamber blocked by a cork.
