Kenneth Milton Hedberg, son of Aron R. Hedberg and Martha Olson was born near Lake Preston, SD on September 13, 1926, and was baptized and confirmed by Rev. E.C. Eid at the Lake Preston Lutheran Church. Kenneth attended all twelve years of school and graduated from the Lake Preston High School in 1944. He attended college courses in Brookings in dairy production before leaving for the United States Navy in January 1945. Following Basic Engineering training he was a machinist mate during World War II. After returning from the service he was employed as a butter maker by the Lake Preston Creamery, and served for many years as Lake Preston Auditor and as treasurer for the Lake Preston City Cemetery. Kenneth was united in marriage to Beverly J. Helseth in Huron, SD, on June 29, 1949. They made their home in Lake Preston until October 1965 when they moved with their three children to West Bend, Wisconsin, where he was employed as a Production Supervisor at Level Valley Dairy, retiring in 1989. He and his family were members of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in West Bend. Kenneth was active in the Lt. Ray Dickop American Legion Post #36 in West Bend; Our Savior's Lutheran Church board, and other civic organizations. He and Beverly enjoyed traveling with friends and relatives until her death on March 6, 1994. Kenneth was an avid pheasant hunter, returning each year to Lake Preston to hunt with his friends and relatives. Kenneth also enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and spending time with his friends and family. Kenneth returned to his childhood home of Lake Preston in the fall of 1994, and on May 20, 1995 married at the North Preston Lutheran Church near Lake Preston to Elaine Jensen. Kenneth was a member of the Lake Preston Service Club; Porter L. Rich American Legion Post #63, and the North Preston Lutheran Church. Kenneth is survived by his wife Elaine of Lake Preston; children, Jeannine Hedberg of Naples, Florida; David Hedberg (Esther) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Blaine Hedberg (Dr. Jan Harkins) of Reedsburg, Wisconsin. Step-children; Wade (Lori) Jensen of Lake Preston, SD; Ward (Jackie) Jensen of Sioux Falls, SD; Dawn (Sandy) Larsen fo Lake Preston, SD. Grandchildren, Joshua Hedberg of Albuquerque, NM, Step-grandchildren, Jay Albert of Brookings, SD, Ronni (Charles) Valmink, Minneota, MN, Isaac Jensen of Watertown, SD, Dallas Jensen of Lake Norden, SD, Jessica Jensen of Sioux Falls, SD, Tara Jensen of Sioux Falls, SD, Holden Larsen of Lake Preston, SD, McKennsley Larsen of Lake Preston, SD; three step-great-grandchildren, Rachel Valmink, of Minnesota, MN, Dylan Valmink of Minnesota, MN, and Areyna Jensen of Sioux Falls, SD, three siblings, Mabel Hedberg of Lake Norden, SD, Alice Peterson of Albuquerque, NM and Floyd (Mary) Hedberg of Glen Allen, Virginia, as well as many nieces and nephews. Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly on March 6, 1994, his brother, Clarence Hedberg on April 15, 1996 and a sister, Selma Hanson on March 17, 2004. Funeral services for Mr. Hedberg will be 10:oo am, Friday, June 26, 2009 at the Lake Preston Lutheran Church in Lake Preston with Pastor Wanda McNeill officiating, burial will be in the Lake Preston Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 pm on Thursday, June 25, 2009 at the Lake Preston Lutheran Church and preceding services in the church on Friday.
