William Blunt, one of the pioneer residents of this section of Iowa, passed away very suddenly last evening at 6 o'clock at his home on Fifth street, one block west of south Iowa street, heart failure being ascribed as the cause by the physician who was hurriedly summoned.

The deceased was born in the state of Wisconsin about 76 years ago and came to Floyd in the year 1854. He helped build the first brush dam across the Cedar River in this city and later farmed near Floyd and Niles, and finally settled in Bassett. Thirty-one years ago he came to this city where he has lived continuously ever since.

Mr. Blunt enlisted for service in Floyd for the great civil war and served his country's needs in a patriotic manner. He was married twice, his widow, Charity E., surviving him. To the first union five children were born, two of whom have joined the great majority. To the latter marriage, eleven children came to bless, all of whom are alive.

The funeral services for the deceased will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the family home. Rev A.B. Curran officiating. Interment will be made in Riverside cemetery.
