Mr. Baker was a retired mechinist and welder from J.P. Stevens and a retired chief of Crestline Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Aberdeen American Legion and a veteran of the N.C. National Guard.
Mr. Baker is survived by his wife, Ruth J. Baker; a son, James Baker of Aberdeen; three daughters, Daisy S. Huffaker of Nashville, Tenn., Margaret Morrow of Amelia Island, Fla., and Shirley J. Blue of Aberdeen; three brothers, Rowland Baker and Bobby Baker, both of Raeford, and Raymond Baker of Durham; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
