OBITUARY, Connersville [IN] News-Examiner, Monday, September 10, 1945:

Mrs. Don W. Croddy, Aged 40, Dies After Long Illness

Mrs. Bertha M. Croddy, 40, of 3305 Iowa, died at her home at 11:30 a.m. after being confined to her bed the past six weeks and in failing health the past 14 months. Before her illness she had been employed by McQuay-Norris Manufacturing Co.

She was one of three children born to Robert and Margaret Dickinson Humphrey in Richland township in Rush county. She was graduated from Clarksburg High School in 1925 and moved here with her family that year. She was married to Don W. Croddy in 1929. She transferred her membership from the Springhill United Presbyterian church to the First Presbyterian church in Connersville.

Survivors besides the husband are two brothers, Guy M. Humphrey, who recently received his discharge from the navy and Pfc. Elbert Dale Humphrey; two uncles, Luther Dickinson, Indianapolis and Frank Humphrey, Rush county; three aunts, Mrs. Kenneth Rudolph, Greensburg, Mrs. P. T. Lahr, and Mrs. Grace Beall of Indianapolis; a nephew, William R. Humphrey, and a grand nephew, Jimmy Ed Humphrey of Clarksburg. Her mother died in June, 1944, and her father died in June, 1925.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. in the Myers Funeral Home where friends may call any time after 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be delayed pending the arrival of the brother, Elbert Dale, who arrived in the States today.
