Nelson Trew was born on the first day of March, in the Year of Our Lord, 1810. He was born in the State of Pennsylvania, to Esq. Andrew and Jane Trew.

When Nelson was a young boy, his family moved west to Ohio. Ohio was primarily unsettled territory at the time. Nelson had at least one brother, Robert, two years Nelson's senior.

Robert died at the age of 33, and is buried in West Bazetta Cemetery. Nelson's mother, Jane, died when Nelson was only 14 years old. She was 35 years old.

At the end of summer, year 1830, when Nelson was 20 years old, he married Ms Lua Foot(e, of Ohio. Lua was about the same age as Nelson. They married at Fowler, Ohio.

Nelson and Lua Trew had eleven children - eight boys and three girls, all born in Bazetta, Ohio. They were as follows: Silas A(1831-1857), Gilbert L(1832-1848), Franklin S (1834-1910), Rebecca J (1837-1922), Lewis (1838-1853), Sara(h) (Rice)(1839-1922), John M (1841-1920) Nelson H (1844-1845), Elizabeth Adell (1847-1920), Wilmot Proviso (1849-1930), Arthur T (1851-1910). Note that three of the boys died as teenagers, and one as an infant.

Nelson's father, Andrew lived to be 65 years old, and died in 1848. He is buried with wife Jane, at Niles City Cemetery, Trumbull County, Ohio.

Nelson Trew was a farmer, and is listed in the Federal U.S. Census in 1860 with substantial wealth. His life was cut short when he was killed by a falling tree on the 5th day of July, 1865.

Nelson was 55 years of age at the time of his passing. He lie with wife, Lua, at Hillside Cemetery in West Farmington, Trumbull County, Ohio.
