“Gently Sleeping.
Shortly after 12 o'clock to-day the summons came to Michael V. Propst, and his soul was taken unto the God who gave it. Early in this year the deceased and his aged companion returned home from an extended visit with their son in Alabama and a short time afterwards the deceased stepped on a nail which penetrated into his foot. As a result of this injury he took to his bed at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Edna W. Weir, where despite the most loving care, he gradually grew weaker until the end came to-day. Michael V. Propst was born at Concord, Cabbarras Co., N. C., Feb. 8, 1822, where after growing up to manhood he was united in marriage in 1845 to Jane Smith White and the same year the young couple removed to Pickins Co., Alabama. Ten children were born unto this sturdy couple, all of whom save one — Allan, whose death occurred in 1894 — are living. All of the children save Cathie's [sic] twin brother, W[iley] F[erdinand], who resides in Alabama, were present when the tired form bid farewell to earthly scenes. In 1876 the family removed to Colorado when this state was in its swaddling clothes, and here the quiet, peaceful man whose form is now still in death settled down in a permanent home and watched his children building up solid and substantial homes for themselves. The children, now living in the relative order of their ages are S[idney] R[udolph] Propst, Mrs. Belle Clanton of Boulder, J[ohn] H. Propst of Pueblo, Mrs. J[oseph] J. Weir, W[illiam] C[athey] Propst of Merino and W[iley] F[erdinand] Propst of Oakman, Ala., (twins), T[homas] K[oger] Propst of Merino, Mrs. Edna W. Weir and Mrs. C[assius] M[arcus] C[lay] Woolman. Deceased and his aged wife united in childhood with the M. E. church and have lived earnest, consistent and faithful members. Of the deceased it might be truthfully said that he had not an enemy in the world — a tribute to his character worth more than all else. To his sorrowing wife and children the community will join with The Democrat in extending tender sympathy, which, while it may not assuage their grief, will in a measure lift its burden. The funeral will be held at the M. E. church at 1 p. m., Saturday May 5, Rev. G. A. W. Cage officiating.”
