Adell Emily Mayo was born November 25, 1925 in Powhatan County, VA to Mrs. Virgie Miles Jackson and the late Charlie Jackson Sr. She departed her life September 5, 1980 at MCV Hospital.

She joined the Mount Zion Baptist Church at an early age.

Later she was married to William H. Mayo and to this marriage two daughters were born, Jacqueline Mayo Haskins and Gearldine Mayo Smythe.

She leaves to mourn her lost a husband, William H. Mayo; two daughters, Jacqueline Mayo Haskins and Gearldine Mayo Smythe; four grandchildren, Terry and Judy Haskins, Joseph T. and Emily Rose Smythe; mother, Virgie M. Jackson; ten sisters - Manerva Randolph, Alice Hughes, Earlene Goode, Leenell Smith of New York; Mary Scruggs, Charlotte B. Jackson, Virgie Taylor, Catherine Jackson, Mahalia Turner, Maude Britt of Powhatan; nine brothers - Marshall Jackson, Bennie Jackson, Joseph Jackson of New York; Roy Jackson, Charlie Jackson Jr., Arthur Jackson, Walter Jackson, William Jackson, Lawrence Jackson of Powhatan; nine aunts; eight uncles; Mother-In-Law, Mrs. Ann Covington of New Jersey; one son-In-Law, Joseph Smythe; seven sisters-in-law; eight brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
