Carl Eugene Smith of Shady Spring, Raleigh County, W.Va., died 31 Jul 1995 in Beckley, Raleigh County.

He was born in Abraham, Raleigh County, a son of George Washington Smith Jr. and wife Emma Catherine Biars.

Mr. Smith was a disabled World War II U.S. Army veteran, having received the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He was a lifelong member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter No. 18. Mr. Smith was a Baptist.

He married Bessie Mae Kincaid in 1947 in Raleigh County.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife. Survivors included son Hershell.

Funeral services were held in the Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel in Beckley. Entombment was in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum of Faith.
