Edie was from a family of 16 children. She had nine half-brothers and half-sisters, children of George and first wife Emily Alice Vandall Smith, and six brothers and sisters, children of George and Emma.
Edie married Horace Benton Ellison in 1935 in Summers County, W.Va. Horace was a son of Charles Tracy Ellison and wife Dora Alice Meador.
Edie was a homemaker and had worked as an assistant at the Abraham Post Office. She enjoyed quilting, listening to religious broadcasts on the radio, and collecting family photos. She was a Baptist.
Edie, 91, died on June 30, 2003, in the Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband Horace, who died in 1956; her parents; a granddaughter; a sister, Pearl Lora Smith Gwinn; brothers Carl Eugene Smith, Everett Abraham Smith, Ernest Sidney Smith, and Earl George Smith; half-sisters, Bertha Jane Smith Surbaugh, Bessie Smith Arthur; Ada (or Ida) Smith Martin, and Emily May Smith Hutchinson; and half-brothers Glenville Everett Smith, Wayne Smith, Arthur Jackson Smith, Ola "Oley" Ernest Smith, and Charles Ota "C.O." Smith Sr.
Edie was survived by three children, Charles Ellison and wife Lois, Patricia "Patsy" Ellison Redden and husband Okie, and Glen Ellison and wife Patsy; a sister, K. Golda Smith Fox; seven grandsons and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel with Pastor John Wesley Richmond and Mr. Williams "Bill" Fritz officiating. Burial was in Meador Cemetery, Pluto, Raleigh County.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.
