Marshall L. Howe was born in Fleming County, KY, September 3, 1826. At the age of 21 years he enlisted in the Mexican War. He was the only man in his regiment to walk the entire distance of 280 miles over the burning sands from Vera Cruz to the City of Mexico.

He was married to Mary E. MaQuire, May 25, 1852. Six children were born, four dying in infancy. Survivors are: John S. near Olney, Rev. Warren T. pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Selma, CA. Two sisters, Mrs. M. J. Bovell of Ashmore, ILL and Mrs. Lou E. Tucker of Salem, IN. one brother, Rev. S. H. Howe, D. D. pastor or thirty years of First Congregational Church of Norwich, Conn. and one Granddaughter.
