EDWARD KARSTAEDT

Edward H. Karsteadt, 70, retired Town of Newton farmer, died Thursday afternoon at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital. He had been ill for two months.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. James United Church of Christ, Spring Valley, the Rev. Merlin Huebschman officiating.
Burial will be in Meeme Center Cemetery.
Mr. Karsteadt was born June 6, 1892, in the Town of Eaton, son of the late Frank and Minnie Stieghorst Karsteadt, and attended district school and Manitowoc Business College.
March 4, 1919, he married Lydia Heckmann of the Town of Meeme and the couple located on a farm in the Town of Newton. His wife preceded him in death Sept. 2, 1939. Oct. 23, 1948 he married Irma Pohl Heckmann of Sheboygan.
He retired from farming in 1949. However, he and his wife continued to make their home on the farm.
He was a member and former elder of St. James United Church of Christ and a former school board member of Newton School District No. 2.
Survivors include his wife, four daughters, Mrs. LeRoy A. Olm and Mrs. Adrian Scheidt of Kiel, Mrs. Harold Tornam of Omaha, Neb., and Mrs. Wilma Schueler of Rt. 1, Clevland; a step-daughter Mrs. Richard Szczepkowski of Sheboygan; three sons, Orville of Rt. 1, Newton, and Howard and Gordon on the home farm, a sister, Mrs. Arnold Dedeering of Millersville, Sheboygan County; three brothers, Otto of Rt. 1, Newton, Oscar of Sheboygan and Frank of Rt. 1, Kiel and 12 grand-children. He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday at Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, until 11 a.m. Monday when the casket will be moved to the church where the body will lie in state from noon until the time of service.A memorial fund has been established in Mr. Karsteadt's name.
