WILLIAM DANFORTH (d. 1880)

William Danforth died on Wednesday last after a very long and painful illness.
He lived for more than a quarter of a century in Meeme and was well known
throughout the southern part of the county. He held the offices of chairman,
town clerk and justice of the peace at different intervals during his residence
here and was secretary of the Meeme Fire Insurance Co. at the time of
his death.
His loss is deeply regretted by a very large circle of friends and
acquaintances.

William Danforth and old resident of the town of Meeme, died of consumption,
at his home in that town, on Dec. 28th, 1880.
Deceased was born in Burkshire, Franklin county, Vermont, August 29th, 1837.
He came to the town of Meeme with his father's family in July, 1858, and has
since that time been a resident of that town. He leaves a step-daughter,
daughter, little son, five sisters and one brother to mourn his loss. He was
the kindest of brothers and the most indulgent father. In the neighborhood in
which he has spent his life, he will long be remembered, for his hospitality
and willingness to help the sick and unfortunate without fee or hope of reward.
He was secretary of the Meeme Mutual Ins. Co. from its origination in 1872
until his death. He had the oversight and management of the business until
almost the last moment of his life. He was buried January 1st, 1881, Rev. H.H.
Beach of Sheboygan Falls, conducting the funeral services.
