Joseph A. Fortier, 78, of 103 Westwood Drive, New Britain, husband of the late Donna (Fitzner) Fortier, died on Wednesday (June 17, 2009).


Mr. Fortier was born in Biddeford, ME and was the son of the late Bertrand and Adelia (Rioux) Fortier.


He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean conflict. Prior to retiring he was employed at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Southington for 34 years. Mr. Fortier was a parishioner of St. Maurice Church.


He is survived by his four children, Teresa Pytlik of New Britain, Adele Willett of Middletown, Thomas Fortier and his wife, Yvonne of Ellington and Stephen and his wife, Carol of Stratford. He also leaves three grandsons, David Pytlik Jr., Joseph E. Fortier and Jeffrey Fortier; three step-granddaughters, Tracey Stefano and her husband, Joseph of Wethersfield, Charlene Graziano of Middleton, and Kimberly Manley and her husband, Kirk of Fairfield; three step-grandchildren, Austin Stefano, Marissa Manley and Jake Manley. He also leaves one brother, Norman Fortier and his wife, Lucille of New Britain and one sister, Jacqueline Wasielewski of Port St. Lucie, FL. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, John Wasieleski. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.


Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Maurice Church, New Britain.
Burial with Full Military Honors accorded will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday morning form 9 a.m. till the time of the services at New Britain Memorial Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Avenue, New Britain.
