Rita Gangelbauer Schuessler, 90, died on June 17, 2009 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Center in Sheboygan Falls.
Rita was born June 16, 1919 in Town of Wilson, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Joseph and Amalia (Scherhaufer) Gangelbauer where they lived on a dairy farm.
When Rita was 14 she was in the employ of the Sills family of Sills Studio. She cared for the Sills children and the household chores.
On October 19, 1940, Rita married Edwin J. Schuessler at St George Catholic Church in Six Corners. Rita and Edwin were married 63 years until his death on March 5, 2004.
Rita and Ed raised five children and were members of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. Rita was an active member of the Church community being involved with Christian Mothers Society, various prayer groups, chairperson for Friendly Visitors to the sick and elderly for 18 years, as well as many St. Peter Claver School projects. She was active in the Red Cross blood donation program and helped many neighbors, friends and family with home care needs.
Rita is survived by her three sons, James (Dorothy) of Manchester, MO., Thomas (Holly) of Irving, Texas and Michael (Barbara) of Sheboygan; two daughters, Marilyn (William) Gedemer of West Allis, WI., and Susan (Leonard) Spalding of Springfield, KY.; six grandchildren and six-step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and 19 step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Germaine Buechler of Belgium, WI; two sisters-in-law, Catherine (Schuessler) Karbon of Coleman, WI. and Ruby Schuessler of Rockford, IL; a good friend, Carl Rigotti.
Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin; a grandson, Steven; and two sisters, Marie Schefsky and Verona Lorier.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Rita on Friday, June 26, 2009 at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church with Rev. Richard Cerpich officiating and Deacon Michael Burch, parish director assisting. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery.
