Ethel Caroline Spence Harden, 73, of Crockett died Thursday, June 18, 2009, at the New River Valley Medical Center in Radford. Funeral service will be held Saturday, June 20, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Crockett Tabernacle with the Rev. Richard Collins officiating. Interment will be in Rosewood Memorial Gardens at Rural Retreat. She was born May 2, 1936, in Wythe County, daughter of the late Everett Marion and Cindy Caroline Parks Spence. She was a member of Crockett Tabernacle and the Ladies' Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Harden; and a brother, Curtis Pickett. Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Brenda Diane Costro of Galax, Carolyn Elizabeth Harden of Ivanhoe and Michelle and James Lewis Pack of Ararat; a son, Michael Patton Harden of Marion; a sister, Doris Edwards of Norwalk, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements.
