She was born February 18, 1935, in Lorain, and lived in Lorain all of her life.. She attended Lorain City Schools, graduating from Lorain High School's Class of 1953-A. She studied at Oberlin Business College and took courses at Lorain County Community College.
She worked in several secretarial jobs, including the American Red Cross. Finding secretarial work unsatisfying, she joined the staff of The Lorain Journal in 1961. Starting out in the Journal's library doing filing, she moved to writing obituaries which later led to her becoming the first African American newspaper reporter at the Journal.
A life member of Greater St. Mathew A.M.E. Church, Lorain, she belonged to the church's Gospel Choir, served as secretary of the trustees, was a former president of the Senior Choir and the Lay organization. She was chosen as a delegate of the African Methodist Episcopal Conference.
She was a member of the Negro Professional Women's Club Inc., president of Les Charmettes Inc., former member of the National Council of Negro Women, former member of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women. She was an instrumental member of the Black River Historical Society and the YWCA, a member of the NAACP- Lorain, and served on the board of directors for the Volunteer Action Center.
