Mildred Lucille Hawbaker, 90, of Des moines and formerly of Dallas Center, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, at The Rose of East Des moines in Des Moines, Polk, Iowa.
Born, Feb 23, 1919, in Burlington, she was the daughter of William James and Anna Emma Schulz Hartman. On Nov. 13, 1937, she married Lloyd Raymond Wasson in Burlington. He died, Aug. 31, 1990. on Dec, 6, 1997, she married Ora Alexander Hawbaker in Dallas Center. He died, March 4, 2005.
Mrs. Hawbaker was a homemaker. She lived in Huxley, New London, Burlington and Adel prior to moving to Dallas Center in 1996. She was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant. l She was known as "the lady with the red hat."
Survivors include three daughters, Stasia Cole of Green Valley, Ariz., Marcia McClellan of Everett, Wash., and Portia McGuire of Grimes; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Brandt Funeral Home in Dallas Center.
The funeral for Mrs. hawbaker will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 19, at Brandt Chapel in Dallas Center. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Shiner Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery, in Pleasant Grove.
