He was preceded in death by his brothers, Wallace "Wad" Abel, Joseph "June" Lester Abel Jr, and his sisters, Lillian Jones and Virginia Hunter.
Mr. Abel enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was an influence on many lives in his church and community. He was a member of Green Spring Presbyterian Church, where he had served the church as and elder, deacon, a member of the choir, youth leader for the youth ministry and the founder of the Children's Church. Wayne was a faithful fan of Washington County sports and served as coach for junior varsity baseball at John Battle and was the scores keeper for Abingdon High School varsity baseball team. He was a US Army veteran.
