Mrs. Emma Haller Kohlhoss, 87, of Silver Spring, formerly of Poolesville, died Thursday, Dec. 1, at the Springbrook Adventist Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Silver Spring.

She was the wife of the late Charles E. Kohlhoss. They were married for 45 years until his death in 1972.

Born in Poolesville, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Gertrude Titus Haller.

Mrs. Kohlhoss was a mother and homemaker. She was an employee of the Hecht Co. for 25 years, retiring in 1972. She was the treasurer of the first PTA of Poolesville High School, where she graduated in 1925 and was also a member of the basketball team. She was on the town commission of the Poolesville town council from 1962 to 1966.

Mrs. Kohlhoss was the first president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Upper Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Department.

Her other interests were the Monocacy Homemakers Club, the Garden Club of Poolesville, the United Methodist Women and the church choir of the Memorial United Methodist Church of Poolesville where she was a lifetime member.

Surviving are a daughter, Nancy K. Young and husband Ronald of Silver Spring; a daughter-in-law, Winifred Steiner Kohlhoss of Poolesville; eight grandchildren, Pamela K. Nill, Cynthia Cook, Charles E. Kohlhoss III, Harry Gilmour Young II, Timothy P. Young, James R. Young Jr., Charles Edward Young and Nancy Young Reburn; nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles E. Kohlhoss Jr.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 4, at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road, Barnesville. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 5, at the Poolesville Memorial United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Monocacy Cemetery, in Beallsville.

Memorial contributions may be 17821 Elgin Road, Poolesville. made to the Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund, Poolesville, Md. 20837.
