Sarah L Adams., 81, longtime resident of Wellesley Hills, died June 15, 2009, at the Tippett Home in Needham. Born in Lincoln, NH, on January 4, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Sherman and Rachael W. Adams.

Sarah attended Lincoln schools and was a graduate of Northfield School for Girls, where she sang in the Glee Club. She received a B.A. from Lesley College in 1953 and furthered her education with a Master's Degree from Boston University Graduate School of Education in 1967. A kindergarten and second grade teacher, she worked at the Johnson School in Natick as well as other Natick schools for 38 years until her retirement in 1996.
She had previously worked for several years at the Edward Devotion School in Brookline. For 40 years, Sarah summered on Nantucket Island, staying at various guest houses and was a member of the Wharf Rat Club.
She was also a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club, the English Speaking Union of Boston, the former Women's City Club of Boston, the Wellesley Tennis Association, and the Wellesley College Club. She enjoyed ballroom dancing and attended dances with Margaret Howell & Associates, Boston Waltz Group, and Sheraton Dinner Dances. She was an excellent cook and had attended the Fanny Farmer Cooking School in Boston in her earlier years. She attended Episcopal Church services at the Church of the Advent in Beacon Hill, Trinity Episcopal Church in Copley Square, and Old North Church in the North End.
Sarah was preceded in death by her sister, Jean Adams Hallager of Lincoln, NH, and her brother Samuel Adams of Canterbury, NH, and is survived by her sister, Marian A. Freese of Pittsfield, NH; five nephews, Thomas "Fuzz" Freese of Gilmanton, NH, Timothy and Dana Freese of Gilmanton Iron Works, NH, William Hallager of Lafayette, CA, and Jonathan Adams of Thornton, NH; and six nieces, Martha Freese Hussey of Pittsfield, NH, Karin Hallager Martel of Lincoln, NH, Christina Hallager Thomas of Hong Kong, Katrina A. Moran of Empire, NV, Melinda A. McGregor of Hollandale, FL, and Anne A. McGonagle of Denver, CO.
Visiting hours will be held at J. S. Waterman & Sons & Waring Funeral Home, 592 Washington St., (Rte. 16), WELLESLEY, from 6:00-9:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 24th, with a brief Chapel Service at 7:00 P.M. A service in celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 30th, at the Church of the Messiah Episcopal Church in North Woodstock, NH, followed by burial at Riverside Cemetery in Lincoln, NH.
