Myron and Florence were the children of Louis and Magdalen "Lena" Thuman Begeman. Unfortunately, Lena died at age 38, in 1906, leaving the two young children: Florence was 5 years old at the time, and Myron was 12.

Their father was a 40-year-old college professor (soon-to-be department chair) and needed help taking care of his young children. That help came from two of Lena's sisters (and probably others), who took the children in for at least some of the time. A few months after Lena's death, we know they were with Rica Bracewell, and we know that Carrie Jourdan was legal guardian in 1911 (unfortunately Carrie died in 1912). In the 1910 census, Florence is listed as living with Hollie and Rica Bracewell AND with her father (that's right; she was counted twice in the same census!). Myron was also with their father.

Dr. Louis Begeman, by then head of the Chemistry and Physics Department, remarried in 1915. Presumably, Florence (14) would have lived with her father and his new wife Mary, and Myron (21) was probably finishing up at the University of Michigan (member of Phi My Alpha fraternity), then off to the Army Air Services as a lieutenant.

By July 15, 1919 he was manager of Wagner Manufacturing Company in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and that day he married Hazel Flagler (daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ira L Flagler) at her parents' home in Spokane, WA. The couple then returned to Cedar Falls to live.

They left Cedar Falls in 1921, with one-year-old Robert, for Ann Arbor, Michigan, where Myron taught in the law school and did post-graduate work. Jean was born during their time in Michigan.

By the time of the 1930 census: Myron, Hazel, Robert L (9) and Jean L (6) were living in University City, St. Louis Co, MO. Hazel's sister Ida M Flagler (27) was living with them. Myron was working as a mechanical engineer, and presumably finishing his doctorate in mechanical engineering.

In 1932, Dr. Myron L. Begeman and his family moved to Austin, Texas, where Myron began his teaching career at the University of Texas. During that time, Captain Mryon L. Begeman was in the ordinance reserve.

By the mid-1950s (maybe earlier), he was chair of the Mechanical Engineering Department, which he remained until he retired. In 1962 he was made a fellow in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, recognizing "outstanding contributions to the teaching of engineering."

Myron's father moved in with Myron and Hazel in 1957 until his own death a year later. Myron, having retired, died in 1970 leaving Hazel and their two children, plus five grandchildren.
