"Mel" Melvin Henry Knisely, PhD (1904-1975), Charleston, S. C. This photo is of a painting by Ray Goodbred & was on a page torn out by me from a magazine or flyer & saved in a file which I just re-discovered on 4/15/2017. The article was composed by Dr. Elsie Taber & Dr. Curtis Worthington. It noted him being survived by his wife, Verona Butzer Knisely; a son, Robert August Knisely; and a daughter, "Susie" Susan Knisely Orr; and 2 grandchildren. He was a graduate of Albion College & got his PhD from the University of Chicago in 1935. He was awarded an honorary M. D. degree in 1970 from the University of Gothenberg & Doctor of Humane Letters from MUSC shortly before his death. He was MUSC Anatomy Dept. Chair from 1948 until he resigned the chair in 1969. He died 30 days after he officially retired.
