Penny Russell
Penny Maurice Elliott Russell, 91, of Gallaway, Tennessee, formerly of Pine Bluff, died October 11, 1998 at Layton Watson Nursing Home at Gallaway.
She was born on April 29, 1907, at Bernice, Louisiana, a daughter of the late John Wesley Elliott and Della Henderson Elliott.
She was a retired telephone supervisor for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, retiring in August 1856 after 30 years. She was an Army Veteran of WWII, a Methodist and helped obtain the National memorial Commermorating the contribution of Women in the service, which was dedicated at Arlington Cemetery in Washington.
She was preceded in deat by her husband, Gene Russell.
Survivors include a sister Hazel Maxwell of Sharpsburg, Georgia. A graveside service will be at 1 pm on Saturday in the Veterans section of Graceland Cemetery at Pine Bluff. Arrangements are handled by Memphis Park Funeral Home at Memphis.
