Arvin Floyd De Cook was a son of Armand and Frances Brand De Cook. He was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa on July 22, 1957. Arvin grew up near Sully, Iowa where he attended the Sully Schools and graduated from Sully High School with the Class of 1975. Already at an early age farming became a way of life for Arvin. On September 7, 1984, he was united in marriage with Lenis Gae Earp, a daughter of Thomas Edward and Virginia Lois Compton Earp. Arvin and Lenis made their home west of Sully and God blessed their union with wonderful children: Tessa Rae, Danielle Lenae and Adam Colby and Lacie Elynn . Arvin loved the farm and working the land. He also had a fond interest in restoring vintage Farmall tractors and Hit and Miss gas engines. In addition he had a passion for mission projects. For the past 11 years Arvin was involved in mission projects on the Mexican border working with "Senda de Vida" Way of Life Ministry. Arvin was a faithful member of the Lynnville Friends Church in Lynnville, Iowa where he was presently serving as an Elder. He also served for many years on the Friends Cemetery Committee. In addition to to his work on the farm, Arvin always had time for family projects, including family parade floats, helping with tree forts, riding 4-wheeler, backyard landscaping and family fireworks. On Sunday afternoon, June 7, 2009, Arvin passed away at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa following a recent automobile/tractor accident on May 22, 2009, two months prior to his 52nd birthday. Those left to honor his memory are his family: his wife, Lenis; children: Tessa and her husband, R.J. Van Dyke of Pella, Iowa, Danielle De Cook and Adam De Cook both at home, Lacie and her husband Ronnie Dykstra and their three children: Chase, Lance and Collin of Newton, Iowa. Arvin leaves his parents: Armand and Frances De Cook of Sully; his father-in-law, Thomas Earp of Sully; a sister, Ruth Ann and her husband, Douglas Dop and their three children: Matthew, Kurtis and Kyle of Monroe, Iowa; his brother, Mark De Cook and his wife, Karla and his three children: Tammy, Tonya and Mallory of Sully; and the following brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Warren and Pat Earp of Florence, Texas, Wyatt and Cindy Eart of Osage Beach, Missouri, Louise (Earp) Rorebeck of Ankeny, Iowa, Diane Earp of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Sheila (Earp) and Harlan Van Wyhe of Sully; along with a host of family and countless friends. Arvin was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Virginia Earp and a sister-in-law, Rhonda (Earp) Gosselink.


Memorials may be given to the Arvin De Cook Memorial Fund to be designated for Texico Mission Projects.
