Last Rites Held October 6 for Glen Hayes, 80
Funeral services for Glen Hayes, 80, of Bedford were held October 6 at the Bedford Baptist Church with Rev. Ollie Odle officiating. Mr. Hayes died at Clarinda Municipal Hospital October 4. Interment was at Lexington Cemetery, northeast of Bedford.
Glen Hayes, son of Jeff and Anna Turner Hayes, was born in Taylor County, Iowa on June 13, 1891.
He was married to Mabel Inman on October 22, 1918, and to this union nine children were born.
Shortly after their marriage they moved to Raymond, South Dakota and in 1934 they moved southwest of Conway where he farmed until his retirement in 1964.
He became a Christian at the age of 16 and joined the Blue Grove Christian Church. After moving to Bedford he joined the Baptist Church where he attended faithfully as long as his health permitted.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
He is survived by his wife, Mabel of the home; five sons, Paul and Vernon of Council Bluffs, Ia., Richard of Phoenix, Ariz., Dean of Ankeny, Ia., and Dennis, in the Air Force at Minot, North Dakota; four daughters, Garland [Marie] Nissen, of Omaha, Neb., Ruth Huddle, Omaha, Nebr., Lora Wright, Spencer, Ia., Jeannette Williams, Des Moines, Ia., four sisters, Jesse Townsend, and Chloe Blakely, of Creston, Ia., Edna Olmstead, Gooding, Idaho, Gladys Grimm, Lenox, Ia.; one brother, Cecil Hayes, Hastings, Nebr.; 24 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
He was a wonderful father and grandfather, a devoted husband, a kind neighbor, and a wonderful friend of many. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
