On the 1st day of December 1912, Mary E. McDonald one of our oldest and most respected women passed away. She was born September 10, 1815 in Virginia, and was the daughter of John Powell. Her mothers maiden name was Nancy Mason. She was brought to Meade County by her parents at an early age.
She married, Alexander McDonald. To this union was given a large family, most of whom still live in and around this county where they were reared.
Mr. McDonald died many years ago, leaving the care and labor of raising the family to Mrs. McDonald. She made profession of faith in Jesus Christ at an early age, and joined the M.E. S. Church and spent sixty-six years of faithful service.
She died at the age of ninety-seven years, one month and twenty-one days.
Mother McDonald spent the last years of her life with her son, J. P. McDonald.
