Carlton Fisher

A gathering will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 20, at Eugene Country Club for Carlton Oliver "Carl" Fisher of Eugene. He died June 15 of heart failure at age 84.

He was born May 17, 1925, in Portland to Carl and Edna Altree Fisher. He married Lois Bosserman on June 16, 1947, in Portland.

He graduated from Grant High School and the University of Oregon and served in the Navy in the Pacific during World War II. He was a general manager of radio stations KUGN and KBZY in Salem and KUMA in Pendleton and worked as director of the University of Oregon Development Fund.

Fisher had served two terms in the Oregon Legislature, in 1959 and 1961.

Survivors include his wife; a son, John of Eugene; two daughters, Margaret Fisher of Eugene and Sarah Lutz of Salem; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Burial will be in Rest-Haven Memorial Park in Eugene. Arrangements by Rest-Haven Memorial Park & Funeral Home.

Carl Fisher passed away at home on June 15, 2009 of heart failure at the age of 84. He was born May 17, 1925 to Edna and Carl Fisher in Portland, Oregon. He graduated from Grant High School and soon after served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy in WWII. On his return he attended the University of Oregon.

Carl married Lois Mae Bosserman, June 16, 1947. They made their home in Eugene where Carl was the General Manager of radio stations KUGN in Eugene, KBZY in Salem and KUMA in Pendleton. Carl served two terms in the Oregon State Legislature from 1959-1961. He was the Director of the University of Oregon Development Fund in Eugene and later in the Portland office from 1972-1976.

After leaving Eugene in 1974 for Portland, Carl and Lois moved and moved and moved again. Leaving good friends in many places, they finally came back home to Eugene in 2004.

Carl loved boats and the water. He built a family cabin on the McKenzie River and enjoyed fishing and spending time there with family and good friends. He built a beautiful sail boat and spent happy times sailing on the Columbia River. He loved golf and was a member of the Eugene Country Club. Carl was also a talented painter and furniture maker. He was always pursuing new interests. From building miniature steam engines to mastering his iphone, Carl was always looking for new challenges. His thirst for knowledge and curiosity about how things worked led him to a variety of interesting hobbies.

Most of all, Carl loved his family. He cherished the summers in Gearhart with all of his grandchildren. He enjoyed hearing about their adventures, suffered when they stumbled and celebrated their achievements.

Carl will be greatly missed by his wife, Lois; 3 children: Margaret and John of Eugene, and Sarah Lutz of Salem, 9 grandchildren who adored him, and 2 great-grandchildren.

A gathering in his memory will be held at the Eugene Country Club on June 20, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
