James Troutman Hommel, 54, of 251 Walker Hollow, Wingate, PA died Tuesday, April 29, 1997, at Centre Community Hospital, State College, PA.

He was born Oct. 12, 1942, in Mifflinburg, a son of Kathryn (Reish) Hommel of State College and the late Grant P. Hommel. He and his wife, the former Sarah "Sally" Lucas, would have celebrated their eighth wedding anniversary May, 26.

He served in the Army.

Mr. Hommel was employed by the Postal Service as a clerk.

He was a member of State College American Legion Post 245; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Potters Mills; Bellefonte Local Order of the Moose Lodge 206; Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks; charter member of the Eagles Lodge, Bellefonte; Social Member of Port Matilda American Legion; and Undine Fire Company No. 2, Bellefonte.

Mr. Hommel was Lutheran.

Surviving, in addition to his mother and wife, are two daughters, Pamela Jo Osborne of Tipton and Judy Ann Carlin of Fleming; one son, James M. of Tyrone; four grandchildren; and one brother, Michael R. of Pine Grove Mills.

He was preceded in death by one son, Robert L. Shutt Jr.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Dean K. Wetzler Funeral Home, Milesburg, PA by the Rev. Thomas M. Osif. Burial will be in Meyers Cemetery, Centre County, PA.

Visitors may call from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.
