Julius Lafayette was born 1846 in Caldwell, NC. He is found on the 1850 and 1860 census living in Summers, Caldwell, NC with his parents. Between 1860 and 1870 he moved to Flinn, Lawrence, Indiana and is found living with John and Ruth Williams on the 1870 census record. He is listed as James Sherril instead of Julius Sherrill and he and Ruth Williams were married in March of 1870. He and Ruth are next found on the 1880 census still living in Flinn, Lawrence County, Indiana with their four children in addition to his mother-in-law, Ruth Williams. In the 1880 census he is listed as Julius Sherrill. You can see from the letter that Inez wrote regarding her mother that Ruth Emily Williams Sherrill died in 1880 in Indiana based on the age of her mother at age 8.(Her mother, Mary Leona Sherrill, was born 1872) Julius Lafayette then moved back to Caldwell, North Carolina to be near his family and he died in 30 May 1884 which was based again on the age of her mother who was born in 1872 in addition to Betty Ooley research. This tombstone represents the date of death correctly for Julius and he is also in the same cemetery as his father, Joseph, his mother, Sarah, his brother, Babel, John A.and Mary Sherrill (wife of John A).
