Roy Jackson (RJ) Scruggs, 61, of Beckwith, W.Va., and formerly of Union Hall, Va., passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2009. Born on May 5, 1948, in Roanoke, Va., he was the son of the late Oakley and Ethel Ayers Scruggs. RJ was a retired utility contractor and owner of S & V Corporation. He enjoyed gardening and fishing. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William Scruggs and Cecil O. Scruggs; and one sister, Phyllis Bartlett. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sandra Lee Mattox Scruggs, of Beckwith; three daughters, Tammy Scruggs, of Beckwith, Kimberly Scruggs and fiance, Brian Sunderland, of North Charleston, S.C., and Kristy Scruggs and boyfriend, Richard Bennett, of Beckwith; and his pride and joy, grandson, Alex "Goob" Wright. Also he is survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Oleta Scruggs, of Boones Mill, Va., and Richard and Ruth Scruggs, of Vinton, Va.; sister and brother-in-law, Nadine and Sherman Truman, of Wirtz, Va.; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services will be held 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2009, at DoddPayne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, W.Va., with the Rev. Denver Turner officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.
