James Edward Hayes, 78, of Frankfort passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009,
at the VA Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born January 18, 1931, in Paducah, Kentucky, to Charles and Alma
(Lindsay) Hayes. He married Margaret McCarthy, and they later divorced.
He married Shirley Harlan Abbott on April 29, 1994, in Frankfort, and she
survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Kathleen Rickard of Valparaiso, and Jamie
(Kevin) Townsley of Frankfort; two sons, James L. Hayes of Chicago and
Michael P. Hayes of Bloomington, Illinois; two step-daughters, Debra Hunter
and Brenda (Dan) Carson, both of Frankfort, Indiana; two step-sons, David
Hunter of Frankfort and Jerry Brantner of Linden; 11 step-grandchildren; 3
great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Larry (Betty) Hayes
of Paducah, Kentucky; and a sister, Josephine Grumbos of Huntley, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son; a great-grandson; and
a brother.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2009, at Archer-Weston
Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery, Colfax, Indiana.
