Sarah Elizabeth Shultz was the daughter of Eli and Catherine Rebecca Beck Shultz of Beck's Grove, Van Buren township, Brown County IN. She was first married to John Carson Guthrie and they had five or six children. Her second husband was her cousin --they married and divorced in one day! He wanted her to put her children in the orphans home. She then married James McKinney and he died about six months later. She then married John Bowman who rented a room from her in Columbus and they were parents of four children.
