1935 Death Notice in The Zanesville Signal, Published Tuesday, February 26, 1935, Page 9 Column 5:
"Mrs. G.A. Vorhees has been notified of the death of her grandmother, Mrs. Katherine Salmans, 86, wife of Silas Salmans, which occurred recently of infirmaties at her home, Hamden, O."
Information from Family History:
Catharine Crow, parentage appears to be James Crow and Jane McConnell (assumption based on Census Records Vinton Co OH 1850-1860, both parents born Ohio), born 22 May 1845 Ohio and died 20 Feb 1935 (per records from the Levi Brimner Salmans "History of the Salmans Family" and also Joyce Foreman's approx 1980 Update to the History. Catharine married Silas Salmans 1/24/1868 in Vinton County Ohio and they resided there until their deaths except for a very short spell when they headed west with the rest of the Salmans Family only to turn back..per story as follows:
Per July 15, 2006 Email from Rhonda Griffith-Grubb ([email protected]) see lineage information below:
"I think Silas and a sister (married a Kirkendall) were the only ones who stayed in OH. My great Aunt Nell (Eleanor Newman Dickman; last of the Newman children to live) told me that Silas and Catherine were on a wagon leaving OH and got as far as IL (?), and Grandma Salmans (Catherine Crow Salmans) told Silas he was either taking her back to OH or she was going back by herself. They came back. They both died long before I was born, but they are buried in the Hamden Cemetery in Vinton County."
Silas and Catherine had the following children:
1. Nora Jane Salmans 1868-1960 (M-Fredric Luther Smith)
2. Martha A Salmans 1870-1960 (M-John Newman)
3. Wm Robert Salmans 1873-1931 (M-Irene Pearl Williams)
