Arlington births: HOLDEN, Sarah, d. Simon, June 16, 1757. PR

Arlington deaths: SMITH, Sarah, w. Samuel, May 29, 1832, a. 75. GR

Sarah was the dau. of Simon Holden (1709 - 1786) and Abigail Grover, their 11th child, b. June 16, 1757 [West] Cambridge; m. Samuel Smith, June 19, 1791, Charlestown, Massachusetts. (Descendants of William Holden, a online family tree)

From diancestry: Sarah was born in Cambridge on 15 June 1757, according to the Holden family Bible record, and baptized 19 June 1757. Her only child, daughter Amy, was born 18 May 1776 and baptized 11 August 1776 at Menotomy. Amy’s father was Sawtell Holden of Shirley, but Sarah and Sawtell did not marry. In September 1776, Sarah charged Sawtell with being the father of a child born 18 May 1776.

Sarah is listed as head of a family of three females on the 1790 United States Federal Census for Charlestown. The household likely consisted of Sarah, her 14 year-old daughter Amy, and her recently widowed 77 year-old mother Abigail. In 1791, Sarah purchased two thirds of a house and barn on the road from Menotomy to Medford from her mother. She married Samuel Sherman Smith in 1791. Their marriage intention was filed 19 June 1791 at Charlestown. Sarah died, a widow, 29 May 1832 and is buried near her daughter Amy and two young grandsons.
