Mary E. or Mary Mountjoy Burke (records conflict, but her tombstone has 'Mary Mountjoy Burke' on it), daughter of William B. Burke, MD, and the former Lucy Baker of Madison County, Kentucky, was born 1 Mar 1872. She married William H. Lillard (son of Thomas Madison Lillard and Mary Bright Lillard), and they had a son named William, who survived them (died in Pawhuska, Oklahoma - was raised by his father's brother, Love Lillard, and wife in Pawhuska). A daughter Margaret Bronston Lillard was born 4 May 1898 and died 9 May 1898. Mary died in 1912, and her husband died in 1914. Mary and her husband adopted a son, Allen Garrard Lillard, Sr., who died 16 Feb. 1954 (buried Flagler Memorial Park, Miami, Florida). Mary had nine brothers and sisters: William Buchanan or William Baker (spouse Irene Dillon), Thomas Bronston (spouse Serena Jeffries "Rena" Linney), Lucy Elliston (spouse Abner Miligan/Mulligan), Robert Edward (spouse Lucille McCord Collins), Julia Clyde (known as Clyde)(spouse Frederick W Millspaugh), Nell Bronston (spouse Luther Tiederman), Emma Chenault (spouse Robert H Harris), Samuel Harding (called Harding)(spouse Hazel Copeland) and Collins Allen (had spouse, name not known).

Many local friends were grieved last week to learn of the death Friday at Danville of Mrs. Mary Burke Lillard, wife of W. H. Lillard, the well known cattle man. She had been ill of pneumonia only a short time. She was 40 years of age and was born in Boyle county. She is survived by a husband, two sons, Allen aged 12 and William aged 5, her father, Dr. W. B. Burke, five brothers, W. B. Burke, Jr., of Prestonburg, Ky., T. B. Burke, of Lexington, Robert and Collins of Boyle, Hardin of Birmingham, Ala., four sisters, Mrs. F. W. Millspaugh, Birminham, Ala., Mrs. Robert Harris, Atlanta, Ga., Mrs. A. G. Milligan, and Miss Nellie Burke of Dallas, Texas.

Mrs. Lillard was a consistent member of the Christian church, an enthusiastic member of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union, and taught a large class in the Sunday school.
