The funeral of Samuel N. Cass took place at the residence of his nephew, George H. Perkins, 147 Oak Street, Laconia Wednesday afternoon, February 2nd. Rev. J.B. Jordan, pastor of the F.B. Church was the officiating clergyman. The bearers were members of John L. Perley Post G.A.R. The remains were carried to Plymouth and interred in the family lot in Riverside Cemetery. Mr. Cass was born in this town, in the old house now standing on what is known as the James Cross place on the east side of Peaked Hill. He enlisted in the 114th Pennsylvania Regiment where he served until he was discharged at the close of the war. He married Julia M. Cross of this town and resided here several years. He removed to Plymouth where he has since been a resident. He was a member of Penniman Post, 42, G.A.R. of Plymouth. A gold medal, received by him for bravery in the service and a substantial purse of money, was presented to John L. Perley Post a few hours before his death. His wife died in 1889. A magnificent monument on which stands the figure of a soldier, life size, in full uniform, marks their last resting place. >The Ashland Item, February 5, 1898, p4.
