Silas Smith Cartwright married Susan Olive Chamberlain/Chamberlin Feb. 5, 1879 in LaSalle County, IL. They had 4 children:
Edna born in IL
Clyde born in IL
Ray born in IL
Paul born in NE

Silas and Susan had moved to Nebraska around 1897. The 1900 census for Hayes County, Nebraska lists Silas, Susan and children Clyde, Ray and Paul. Daughter Edna had married Ira Emery Pearson and their names along with first daughter Susie appear on the census right below her parents. In 1904 Susan's sister Emily sold Susan a piece of land she had acquired by the Homestead Act in Hayes County, NE. for $470. In 1906 Silas and Susan purchased 2 parcels of land totaling 320 acres for $1300. In 1915 they sold the land for $7800. Susan sold the land acquired by her sister for $1100. Silas and Susan then moved to Adrian, Malheur, OR and returned to farming. Their youngest son, Paul, lived at Coeur d'Alene, ID. Paul's first wife Pearl May (Flannery), who he married Feb. 22, 1919, died in 1935, leaving him with a young daughter, Wilma. Susan went to help care for little Wilma, and died suddenly March 11, 1936. She is buried at Coeur d'Alene. Silas died at a nursing home in Nyssa, OR and is buried there.

After the death of his wife Pearl, son Paul married Agnes E. Voss on April 18, 1942. Daughter Edna had married and remained in Nebraska.

Silas's obituary stated that his other two sons, Ray and Clyde, lived in the Nyssa community.
