U.S. Congressman. He attended the Erasmus Hall Academy, Flatbush, engaged in agricultural pursuits, surveying and was supervisor of New Utrecht, Kings County, New York, (1836-59). In addition, he was also a member of the New York State constitutional conventions, (1846, 67-68) and a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions in 1860. In 1865, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-ninth Congress, serving until 1867. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed agricultural pursuits and surveying, until his death at age 74. He also served as a Colonel of the 241st Regiment, New York State Militia.
