Geneva Hudson Anderson departed this life suddenly, but quietly, on Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Morningside Assisted Living in Charlottesville, Virginia.

She was born August 11, 1917, in Whitney, North Carolina, a much beloved only child, to the late T.C. Hudson and Zelphia Cochran Hudson. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Charlie Anderson.

Geneva completed her high school training in Badin, North Carolina, and one year of college after graduating from high school. Geneva left North Carolina and moved to Charlottesville to find work and be near extended family living in the area. Here she met her husband, Charlie, the love of her life. She did not return to North Carolina.

Geneva started work as a domestic, however she enjoyed a number of successful endeavors over the years. After being certified by the Apex Beauty Products Company as a beautician, she established and operated Anderson's Beauty shop for 10 years which she ran in her home. She sold Studio Girl cosmetics and Liter's fabrics from her home. Outside the home, Geneva worked as a salesperson for Ideal Realty and later as an office staff person for the Richmond Beneficial Insurance Company. However, the job that brought her the most satisfaction was that of Visiting teacher for Albemarle County School System. In that capacity, she visited school age children in their homes and determined what resources they required to enable them to attend and better perform at school. After her retirement, Geneva continued her spirit of giving as a volunteer at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

Geneva was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where she sang in the choir and served on many committees over the years. Geneva was active in the community, having stood hand in hand with the local NAACP during the early days of the civil rights movement. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Along with her giving spirit, those who know her will miss her sage wisdom, her quiet, but determined manner and her warm, welcoming smile.

Left to morn this remarkable woman's memory is her only son, Eugene A. "Al" Anderson; two granddaughters, Judith D. Anderson and Janice P. Barrett; their husbands, Joseph E. Johnson and Brent B. Barrett; two great-grand-daughters, Sara R. Anderson and Molly E. Johnson; her very dear relatives and friends in North Carolina, Chesapeake, New Jersey, and Ohio.

The family would like to express their many thanks to Dr. Ursula Courtney, Dr. Amy Tucker, both of the Family Practice Clinic at the University of Virginia Medical Center and to the management and staff at Morningside Assisted Living for their loving care and support of Geneva and her loved ones.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1042 Preston Avenue, with the Reverend Sherry Hardwick-Thomas officiating. Interment followed at Holly Memorial Gardens.

Anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution, can do so by donating to the Trinity Episcopal Church building fund.
