Mrs. Allen Dead
Mrs. Minerva Allen died at her home, 304 W. 3rd St., Wednesday morning, July 5, from stomach and bowel trouble, from which she had suffered several weeks. The funeral will be held at the home of Grant McQueen at 2:30 o'clock this (Friday) afternoon, Rev. L.P. Goodwin, of the Methodist church, preaching the sermon. Pallbearers will be the following grandchildren: Vern Allen, Pearl McQueen, Eddie Bartlett, Jim Canfield, Leslie Mitchell and Eddie Smith. Burial will be in Red Oak cemetery. Those who are here from a distance to attend the funeral are Dora Jessup (sic), of Council Bluffs, and Nellie LeMars (sic) of Des Moines. Mrs. Allen was born March 3, 1838, in Illinois, and was married to Morris T. Allen in Wayne County, Iowa, 65 years ago. They lived in Ringgold and Page counties before coming here 31 years ago. Mr. Allen died here in 1920. Mrs. Allen is survived by the following children: Mrs. Grant McQueen, Mrs. Bud Houchin, Bud and John Allen, of Red Oak; Dora Jessup (sic), of Council Bluffs; Nellie LeMars (sic) of Des Moines; Arvilla McQueen and Mrs. Mary Calloway of Baker, Oregon. Two daughters, Rachael Hand and Maragaret (sic) Cronk, preceded their mother in death. Mrs. Allen was a member of the Methodist church.
