Margaret L. Smith

Susan - Margaret Louise Smith, 72, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 1998, in Asheville, N.C.

She was born in Asheville and moved to Susan, where she and her late husband, Cecil, owned and operated C.F. Smith General Merchandise Store. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.

She survived by her daughter, Helen Lee Hurst, and her husband, John, of Susan; three grandchildren, Sherry Goerger of Suffolk, E. Ann Hainley of Hartfield and Christopher Hurst of Gloucester; two great-grandchildren, Leslie and Kelsey Hainley; four brothers and four sisters.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, in Friendship Cemetery, Susan, conducted by the Rev. Charles Perry, pastor of St. Paul.

The family will receive friends following the service in church. Family request expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to St. Paul United Methodist Church or the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad.
