Thomas Michael McLaney of Dothan went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 16, 2009. He was 66. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 18, 2009, at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Guy Causey and Aubrey Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow in the Newton City Cemetery under the direction of Ward Wilson Funeral Home. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2009, one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to a charity or church of choice. Mr. McLaney was born Oct. 5, 1942, in Dale County and graduated from Newton High School in 1960. He received a Bachelor or Mechanical Engineering degree from Auburn University in 1964. He served his country with the Alabama National Guard for 6 years. Mr. McLaney worked as a mechanical engineer for the United States Government in Fort Rucker for 30 years. He retired in 1994. He was preceded in death by his parents, John E. and Susie Wynn McLaney; and a brother, Johnny. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Carolyn Benton McLaney of Dothan; one son, Michael McLaney and his wife, Doyla of Webb; two daughters, Lena Burns and her husband, Brett of Dothan; Jennifer Druham and her husband, Jay of Montgomery; five grandchildren, Jennifer and Eric Burns, Heather and Laney Durham, and Michaia McLaney; one brother, Allen McLaney (Sybil); one sister, Clairece Cole (Allen); and several loving nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be nephews, Frankie McLaney, Ashley Cole, Chad White, John Raymond Benton, Scottie Yarbrough, Chris McCarty, Tyler Barrett; and a friend, James McCarty.
