The son of James Moses "Mick" Eads and Laura Belle Emory, "Clay" married Rose Marie Hoelzel on 03 Jul 1918 at St. Louis City Hall in St. Louis (city), Missouri. They were the parents of 4 children.

During the early years of their marriage, Clay worked as a hob nailer for the Brown Shoe Company. He went to work for the United States Post Office in the 1920's, and the family moved to University City in St. Louis County.

Clay and Rose divorced in the early 1950's.

Children from first marriage: 4 daughters.

Clay later remarried in the mid-1950's.

His second wife was Mrs. Marie (Grisham) Mazza. She was the widow of Frank Antonio "Tony" Mazza. She had children with Tony, and with her first husband, Samuel Crane.

Clay and Marie eventually separated and/or divorced.

Children from second marriage: None.

Clay died of a heart attack at the age of 69 years, 11 months and 5 days.
