Funeral services for Sylvia C. Simon will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 10 a.m. in the George Price Funeral Chapel in Levelland with Rev. Jesse Hodge officiating. Burial will follow in the City of Levelland Cemetery under direction of George Price Funeral Home. She passed away on June 14, 2009 at the Betty Dare Good Samaritan Center in Alamogordo, N.M.
She was born to Art and Clara (Tanberg) Van Doren on May 17, 1920 in Jones, Okla. She lived near Levelland before entering the School of Nursing in Lubbock. In 1942, she worked at a hospital in Denver, Colo. and private practice in California, in Lubbock, and at the Dr. Renegar and Campbell Clinic in Levelland. She was the Hockley County health nurse prior to her marriage to W. R. (Bill) Simon.
After her retirement, she started china painting and filled her home with beautiful painted china that she shared with her family, neighbors, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister, Mildred.
She is survived by two sisters, Joy Wheeler of Levelland and Carol McRee of Alamogordo, N.M; stepchildren, Charles Simon of Maineville, Ohio, Geraldine Stringfellow of Midland, and Phylis Mathis of Amarillo; and several nieces and nephews.
