JOHN ASHLEY REDDICK was the 2nd of 9 children born to John Reddick, Sr., of Martin Co., NC, and Dosia Blackburn, of Stokes Co., NC. John Ashley was born 1811, the year his family arrived in Sumner Co., TN. They settled on 122 acres on the Cumberland Fork of Drake's Creek in the Fountain Head area.

John inherited the home his father had built in 1811. After John's death, this home remained in possession of Reddick descendants for 4 more generations.

John's mother died before his father wrote his Will in January of 1835. John was the Executor of his father’s Will, probated in 1842. His siblings, named in the Will, were:
1. Newton Blackburn 1809-1887, m. 1st Elizabeth C. Hodges, 2nd Mary Jane Wadley,
2. James Eli, 1830-1898, m. Susannah Lane
3. Emily Melinda, 1824-1895, m. Lewis Martin
4. Cynthia C., 1828-1896, m. 1st James C. Moncrief, m. 2nd Jonathan Escue
5. Elijah Leigh, 1830-1898, m. Susannah Lane
6. Dosia, b. 1823, m. William A. Edwards
7. Martha Patsy, b. 1820
8. Christina who died a child in 1837.

After the death of his father, John Ashley was the Guardian of his youngest siblings Emily Melinda, Cynthia and Elijah.

John had married Sarah "Sallie" N. Hodges July 30, 1835 in Sumner County. Sarah was the daughter of Asa Hodges and Jemima Cochran; and the granddaughter of Sgt. Samuel Cochran, a Soldier of the Revolution. John was a farmer. He and Sallie had 3 children: James Wiley, Mary Ann, and Sophia Malinda.

John's GRANDPARENTS were:
David Reddick and Annie Caraway of Martin Co., NC
Younger Blackburn and Martha Goode of Stokes Co., NC
