Last Rites Held April 20 For Charles E. Hale
Funeral services for Charles Edward Hale, 75, lifetime Bedford resident, were held April 20 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford with Carl Cummings officiating. Mr. Hale died April 18 at St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, Mo. Interment was at Bedford cemetery, Bedford.

Charles Edward Hale, Sr., son of the late William Asbury Hale and Letha May Houck, was born November 4, 1897, at Bedford, Iowa.

Charles lived his entire life in Bedford, where he attended Bedford grade and high school. Upon graduating from high school, he attended Iowa State College at Ames, Iowa, where he took a course in animal husbandry. He returned to Bedford where he began his career as a dairyman.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Bedford.

He was united in marriage to Cecile [Morris] Dowell in January 1934. To this union twin sons were born, Charles E. [dward] and William E. Hale.

He is survived by his twin sons, Charles of Bedford and William of Maryville, Mo.; two sisters, Miss Alice Hale, Bedford; Mrs. Carolyn Riffe, Mound City, Mo.; three grandchildren, Shirley, Sherri and Andrew Hale, Maryville, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Edith, Olive and Edna Hale.
