The funeral of Jim Finney, 77 a resident of Hale County for the past 33 years will be conducted at 3:00 Wednesday.The services will be at the Baptist Church. Mr Finney died at 4 o'clock Monday afternoon about 2 hours after he was stricken ill at his home at 835 Baltimore. Death was attributed in a heart attack.He had been in poor health for some time. He was commissioner of precinet 4 from 1926-1934 and a number of years ago served as deputy sheriff in the west part of Hale county. In 1940 he moved from his farm 3 miles East of Olton to Plainview and was corporation judge here for 3 1/2 years from 1941 until 1945. He was born July 18, 187 in Denton County. In his youth he resided for a few years in Montana and in 1900 came to Hale County.For the next 15 years he resided north of Plainview at what is now known as Finney Switch.A point on the Santa Fee railroad named for his father, the late W R Finney. In Nov of 1905 he and Miss Eppie Parks were married at Plainview. In 1915 they moved to the homestead E of Olton.They had 5 children , 3 of whom survive were Mrs. Finney died oct 30, 1931. In 1953 Finney and Mrs. Minnie Boyd, a resident a number years NW of Hale Center were married. Finney was converted and baptized in his young manhood but did not affilitate with a church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Besides Mrs. Finney survivors are the children. Mrs. Clyde Witten, Edmonson, W G Finney, Olton and J R finney, Banning Calif. Surviving stepchildren are Wayne Boyd, Plainview, Orval Boyd,Hale Center, Grady Boyd Amarillo & Vernon Boyd,El Paso. one half-brother Tom Finney and one haf-sister, Mrs. C R Moore both of Medina survive. 7 grandchildren survive.
